Dysk zewnętrzny USB popsuty przez Windows XP

Witam.
Mój kolega korzystał z powodzeniem z dysku ,,Elements'', zewnętrznego pod Ubuntu 10.04, wróciliśmy na święto do domu i podłączył go do komputera z Windows XP, Windows XP najpierw szukał sterowników, później wykrył dysk jako:

czyli go nie wykrył. Po ponownym[/m podłączeniu do Ubuntu dysk się nie montuje, po próbie podłączenia do Windows Vista i Windows7 (wcześniej działał bez przeszkód) to samo co na Windows XP:

Problem w tym, że nie wiem jak dysk jest oznaczony w /dev. Jakbym wiedział to bym go próbował ręcznie zamontować.

Zajrzyj do katalogu /dev, jakie urządzenia są przed wsadzeniem dysku, głównie te /dev/sd*. Podłącz dysk zobacz jakie przybyły lub popatrz w logi /var/log/dmesg, zaraz po podłączeniu.

Ani przy podanym poleceniu, ani w dev nie ma żadnych różnic przed i po podłączeniu dysku..

Przecież podał te logi i z nich wynika, że ma problem z obsługą usb. Odepnij ten czytnik pamięci, czy co tam masz podłączone i sprawdź ponownie.
A najlepiej to pobierz sobie Knoppiksa i sprawdź, czy masz wszystko sprawne. System sprzęt itp.

Czyżby się popsuł? Po podłączeniu posłuchaj czy działa. Spróbuj innego gniazda usb, spróbuj na krótszym kablu jeśli masz przedłużacz.

Sprzęt mam sprawny, sprawdzałem dysk na 7 komputerach z: Ubuntu 10.04, Kubuntu 11.10, Windows7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Archlinux, Debian stabilny. Wszędzie to samo. Chodzi, po podłączeniu czuje, że wibruje i słyszę jak się obraca, kontrolka się pali.

Według informacji dostępnych w internecie, dysk wymaga instalacji sterowników i prawdopodobnie (moim zdaniem) lepszego zasilania. Należy odpiąć wszystko co jest podpięte do portów usb, poszukać sterowników w przypadku Windows, a w przypadku Linuksa - Knoppix powinien to zobaczyć.

Przypomnę jednak, że przed podłączeniem do windowsa xp, dysk działał sprawnie na wszystkich urządzeniach bez instalacji dodatkowych sterowników i dodatkowego zasilania(działał bez żadnej ingerencji, był podłączany, wykrywany i po prostu działał), dlatego też instalacja sterowników, czy dodatkowe zasilanie nie jest rozwiązaniem tego problemu.
